Judy Auritt, a graduate of West Philadelphia High School, was an AAU Junior National and Middle Atlantic States Swimming Champion and an NCAA record holder for Penn State University and the University Of Pennsylvania in the 1940s.
She held Middle Atlantic Championships and resident and championship records in 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle and the distances of 220, 440, 880 yards and one mile. Several of her records still stand. Although she undoubtedly would have qualified, her dream of going to the Olympic games never materialized due to the cancellation of the 1940 and 1944 games, when she was at the peak of her career.
Following her graduation from Penn State, she and her husband, Robert Klein, settled in Allentown and Judy began a career of voluntary service to the community which included president of the Allentown School Board, board member of the Franklin Institute and a board member of the National Museum of American Jewish History.
She is a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, the West Philadelphia High School Hall of Fame and recipient of the Penn State School of Liberal Arts Service to Society Award.
